I wanted to share with you just a few of my favorite memories from Cambodia!
The traffic is crazy! It is amazing to see what all that you share the road with:
cars, trucks, vans, buses, mopeds, motorcycles, bicycles, tuk tuks, horse-drawn carriage, tractors, cows, pigs, donkeys and some modes of transportation that are makeshift that I have never seen before. And when I say "share the road," I mean they are in the lanes of traffic with you.
We stopped by the side of the road and passed out packages of top ramein. There weren't that many houses around--but the kids and adults just kept coming. I don't even know where they all came from. They were so grateful to get just a single package of top ramein!
We took the orphans to the cultural center in Siem Reap and loved the shows we saw there. The performers were amazing!
This is a classic picture that none of us will forget. For a dollar, we could take a picture of this young girl with a python snake wrapped around her neck. Her boat pulled up next to ours, we took pictures, paid the dollar and off she went with her dad to the next boat.
I loved watching our families walk hand in hand with these sweet orphans.
Emily and Sam being funny by an ancient headless statue at Angkor Wat!
A woman that we saw leaning against a trash can in Siem Reap. She was just a rail. It broke my heart.
The Smegg clan with some of the kids at Angkor Wat. That is an ancient temple in the background :)
Munchie and his new found friend, Rhea!
This was a riot! These balls have the kids in them. They get to get blown up and ran around in them like little hamsters! They loved it!
Munchie and I with Ya Ya in a tuk tuk! Love her! What a treat to stay with her family. Her mom is Botevy and the one that runs the orphanage there in Phnom Penh.
A woman that we saw begging for food at the market. So sad to see....
The markets are interesting to say the least! Nothing like raw poultry hanging around.
Sweet kids that we would love to bring home! YenYen, Jenny, Sarong, Monte and Selena.
Brother and Sister Henderson. They were one of those that referred us to Botevy! Heaven guided us through them. So fun to meet them.
Our morning routine. Time to boot up the computers and check in online.
Coming home from church with the orphans on their bus!
Botevy and her crew preparing a wonderful meal for us in the kitchen at her home. This is a normal process on how they prepare the meals. It's a lot of work but the food is wonderful!
This is Ya Ya and Sunny--two of our favorite people. They are Botevy's daughters and we had such a great time with them.
This is a picture of Linda with Yen Yen--one who has joined our families. We love her like our own and call her our firstborn Smegg! She came to Cambodia to work on her own and we have loved serving with her. What a blessing she has been!
One of our beloved tuk tuk drivers, Piah!
This is Monte Carlo, Jenny and Selena. Love those girls!
This is a sign that one of the orphans made to go up on the chicken coop! We were so excited and it made us feel so good.
